When it comes to building our team, we look for people with an innate passion for service, an enthusiasm for strengthening the industry and bringing fresh ideas to the table that can help us grow as a company. These are some of the people that redefine our evolving company culture and embody the Marbella Club philosophy.
Name: Francisco Gómez
Title and department: Front Desk Manager
Time working at the Marbella Club: 13 years
How did you end up at the Marbella Club and why did you want to work here?
I arrived at the Marbella Club after passing through Le Meridien and Westin, but working here had always been an objective of mine. The Marbella Club is without a doubt a worldwide reference in the luxury hotel industry, and it’s a privilege to form part of a company with so much heritage.
What is your favourite part of your job and why?
Without a doubt the best part of my job is being with our guests. Taking care of their needs and requests, dealing with whatever problems they may encounter…the client is at the heart of the hotel and is our differentiating factor. Today, any hotel is capable of having incredible facilities, but the way the client is treated is what makes a stay truly special. That’s why our biggest asset at the Marbella Club is our team. It makes this place quite magical.
What’s one of the most interesting things to have happened to you while you were working?
Quite a few (laughing)! Many I can’t share but, one that stands out is when one of my colleagues that, right in the middle of a busy day, with all of the phones ringing, guests waiting and lots of work, gets really upset when his personal mobile starts ringing. It doesn’t seem that funny until you picture him answering his phone almost barking and he realises that it was actually him calling his own mobile, trying to make a restaurant reservation for a guest! At the front desk there are many stressful moments, but I remember this as being particularly funny!
After so much time being around guests, what is the thing that most surprises them about the Marbella Club? What’s the thing that you most like to point out about the hotel?
When you start to gain experience you realise that no matter how much purchasing power a guest has, they are no different than any other person. They like the service that we offer and, as I mentioned before, it’s the team that makes up this company that makes them want to return to this little piece of paradise time and time again. If I had to highlight something I would say Villa del Mar, a place that makes us stand out from any other hotel. I would recommend you looking at it on our website.
In the time that you’ve been here, what’s been your best moment?
I’ve had so many great moments here. I’ve always thought that we spend so much time working, we should be doing something we love. Otherwise, it would be unbearable…I have particularly great memories from my first few months on the job where I was able to work alongside really incredible professionals. Some have already retired, others are on the brink, and some are still in the forefront.
If you could spend a day working in a different area of the hotel, which would it be and why?
I’m actually really passionate about my job and I couldn’t really picture myself doing anything else, at least for now. But if I had to choose, I would say the kitchen. Cooking is one of my hobbies and I wouldn’t mind trying to have a go at it, although not directly being with guests….
The views from the Imperial Suite.
What is your favourite place in the hotel? And in Marbella?
Anyone who knows the Marbella Club would agree with me that it’s difficult to settle on just one place. But if I must, I would stick, with the views from our Imperial Suite…simply incredible. I’m from Marbella. I was born here and I’m still here…Marbella is also a paradise in itself, but if I had to choose a place, I would say anywhere along the seaside promenade or the Marbella Old Town.
